Now Showing: Weekend of February 10 - 12, 2017
Dear readers, please go see John Wick: Chapter 2 this weekend. I humbly make this request because I really want to see John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 2 needs your dollars and my dollars to make that happen.
From all the reviews, it seems like The Lego Batman Movie is also a good viewing choice. The only wrong way you can go at the theaters this weekend is Fifty Shades Darker. In a quick glance at the Rotten Tomatoes reviews, I saw this quote about Fifty Shades Darker and it is my favorite - "[m]akes The Chronicles of Riddick look like Le Regle du Jeu." I have no idea how the critic arrived at that particular comparison, but you can read his review HERE. [post-publication UPDATE - Apparently Christian Grey has a poster of The Chronicles of Riddick in his childhood bedroom.]
Some of my recommendations from last week should still be available in most theaters, so you are advised to check these movies out, if you haven't already: Hidden Figures, Jackie, Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back, La La Land, Rogue One, and Split. Here are my new picks for this weekend:
John Wick: Chapter 2 - Listen to us gush about this movie in this week's episode HERE. John Wick was a cautionary tale about killing the wrong guy's dog. John Wick: Chapter 2 is an even more cautionary tale about trying to force the wrong guy to do something he doesn't want to do. These guys will never learn to just leave John Wick alone. Grab the biggest popcorn and soda your theater offers, plop down in the center seat, and if you are anything like me, you'll have a big, dumb smile on your face for 2 hours. If you liked the first installment, you'll love this one. If you haven't seen John Wick, stop reading this article and go watch it now! I'll wait for you to come back. See? Wasn't that an entertaining movie? Now go see John Wick: Chapter 2!
The Lego Batman Movie - Batman was the surprise star (and one of the most quoted characters) from The Lego Movie, so no real surprise that he gets to headline his own movie. The trailers are funny, the reviews are good, hopefully this movie is entertaining for all ages. Besides, it's a chance to see a "fun" D.C. Comics movie, so why miss out on the (rare) opportunity? I'll be checking this out sometime over the weekend with family and if I am so inspired, I'll post some sort of review.
