Now Showing: Weekend of February 17 - 19, 2017

So, three movies open wide this week: A Cure for Wellness, Fist Fight, and The Great Wall. You can already hear what we think of The Great Wall HERE, but what about the other two?
A Cure for Wellness is the first new film from Gore Vorebinski since The Lone Ranger bombed in theaters three years ago. Is it any good? I don't know but I sure hope so. It looks like a compelling psychological horror flick with some great visuals and production design. I hope that it is more like Shutter Island and less like The Ward. Out of the three movies opening, A Cure for Wellness has the slight critical edge on Rotten Tomatoes. I'm going to try and check it out this weekend and I'll see if I can put up my thoughts here or on Twitter.
The trailer for Fist Fight has been in heavy circulation for the last two months or so. It looks like another absurdist school comedy from the perspective of teachers in the vein of Bad Teacher but not as outright silly as High School High. Charlie Day plays the straight man, Ice Cube plays the teacher who is going to kick his ass, and I'm sure Tracy Morgan plays a guy who will make a joke about wanting to get something or someone pregnant. Critical consensus seems to be that far too few of the jokes land and that the movie is a waste of the comedic talent present. See it at your own peril.
For my not so humble opinion, I think you should go see John Wick: Chapter 2 or The Lego Batman Movie, if you haven't already see them. Some of my other recommendations from last week should still be available in most theaters: Hidden Figures, Jackie, and La La Land.
So that's a wrap. If you see something this weekend, let us know what you thought of the movie?
