Mission Impossible: Fallout
Mission Impossible: Fallout is one of the summer’s best films and could be the best of the franchise.
After an Impossible Mission Force (IMF) mission ends in catastrophe, the world is faced with terrible consequences. As Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) takes it upon himself to fulfill his original briefing, the CIA begins to question his loyalty and his motives. His IMF team (Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg) are joined by CIA fixer August Walker (Henry Cavill), as they are hunted by assassins while trying to prevent a global disaster.
If you can set aside any personal feelings about Tom Cruise, you will be in for a wild, enjoyable ride with this film. The setup and plot will not surprise anyone familiar with this franchise: the world will be in danger, Ethan Hunt and his team will be questioned about their motives, there might be a mole, it will seem like there’s no hope of success until the last second when Ethan does something incredible and saves the day. Add in gorgeous set pieces, exotic locations and astonishing stunts that rival anything in the movies today and you have exactly what audiences are looking for in a summer blockbuster: pure entertainment.
Fallout delivers on all of these criteria. It is a fun popcorn ride that is entertaining and does not require the use a very much gray matter. Much has been said about the depths through which Tom Cruise goes to prepare for and actually pull off the many incredible stunt you see in a Mission impossible movie. Spending over 2000 hours learning to fly a helicopter. Rehearsing a stunt for over a year then breaking his leg in a scene where he jumps from building to building (which delayed the shooting of the movie for three months). That is why I am very pleased to share that Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise have given us one of the best movies of the summer and an action movie for the ages.
